Most of the times we made unconscious decisions about activities, choices and even food, and one clear example are our nut butters, we have been consuming popular brands such as skippy or nutella since we were children, without being aware of what is inside of the jar.
Around 5 years ago I saw a WWF video of how our consumer choices are affecting wildlife. For instance, in order to produce palm oil, which consists of a 23% of a nutella jar. Large plantations of these trees are located in Malaysia, Thailand, and Nigeria. An area of 300 football fields of tropical rainforest is killed due to palm oil plantation. On the other hand, besides the natural forest lost, numerous species are suffering the horrific consequences of this mass deforestation.
Moreover, nutrition wise, are we really getting the nutrients that our body needs from this commercial brands, that have been staring in our pantry for decades? there are many sources demonstrating the real ingredients of these brands. So on the long term, is it actually cheaper to consume these products, instead of supporting local markets and actually nourish our bodies, think about it, is it really cheaper?
